Nicole LeCorgne is originally from New Orleans, La. She began photographing as an undergraduate at University of New Orleans, but left the field for many years to peruse a career as a professional percussionist, specializing in music of the Middle East. Nicole has a Masters degree in Ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University and has traveled extensively throughout the Middle East studying and performing Arabic percussion, as well as photographing music and dance. Photography has become the way that Nicole bridges the gap between a love for academic research and performance. She has photographed musicians and dancers in Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon Saudi Arabia and the US. Nicole’s work has been published in Aramco World and Global Rhythm Magazines and is part of the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street traveling exhibition on American roots music. When she’s not traveling or performing, Nicole continues to do event photography and portfolio work for musicians and dancers in the New York area. Nicole is a finalist for Fulbright funding to do a photo documentary project on the musical life of Cairo.
